Improving energy efficiency

The chemical industry is a major supplier of energy conservation solutions through its R&D capabilities and innovative products and processes.

Examples are:

  • materials crucial to the development of fuel efficient transportation and hybrid cars
  • high performance insulation, long lasting sealants and energy-saving light bulbs
  • replacement of metal blades in wind turbines by composite ones (generally made of fiberglass-reinforced polyester)

R&D and technology innovations are key elements in the development of an effective future energy policy. The chemical industry can play an important role in providing resources, skills, process facilitation and research capabilities. These can help deliver long-term solutions to our energy crisis.
