Consultants

Experts of temperature measurements in Europe, available from the website of the European co-operation for accreditation.

Most European countries have regional organisations, where many laboratories are co-operating. These laboratories are led by experts in their fields. See for example www.dkd.info in Germany or www.cofrac.fr in France. For other countries ask the national measuring institute (NMI) in your country.

Industry guides

Testo AG supplies instrumentation for temperature and humidity measurement and have free illustrated industry guidance documents (pdf in German) for temperature measurement in food, infrared measurement, management and calibration of traceable testing equipment and measurement of room climate. There are also general introductory application notes (pdf in English) on temperature and humidity measurement.

Organisations

BIPM ensures worldwide uniformity of measurements and their traceability to the International System of Units (SI). It carries out measurement-related research and fosters international comparisons of national measurement standards, and undertakes calibrations for member European states.

EUROMET is a cooperative voluntary organisation between national metrology institutes in the EU and EFTA. Its aim is to promote the coordination of metrological activities and services with the purpose of achieving higher efficiency.

Thermal property data

Firstly, try the evitherm data centre, where you might find the data you need and, if it's pay-for, more cheaply.

Safety

Special safety conditions in temperature measurement are followed in the area of highly explosive liquids, gases and chemicals. Click on www.iso.org, where you can find and search for all ISO-standards (ISO = International organisation for Standardisation) regarding explosion protection in temperature measurements.

Quality

The quality of a measurement in general can be expressed by means of the rules of the “Expression of the Uncertainty of Measurement in Calibration”. These documents where first published in 1997 by the European Cooperation for Accreditation of Laboratories (EAL) and are now known as EAL-R2 and Supplement 1 to EAL-R2. These documents are in compliance with the recommendations of the “Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement”. For more information see www.gum.dk.
